Tim Sale has done awesome work with Batman, most notably on The Long Halloween, a 13-part miniseries which these pictures are from. He also did some Grendel, along with lots of other stuff. His work is very painterly, with strong moods and shadows. He specializes in dynamic layouts and exciting settings with exceptional detail. He and his frequent collaborator, Jeph Loeb, did a great Superman origin series as well as ones for Daredevil and Spider-Man.
