When you're a comics fan and a movie fan, you're setting yourself up for disappointment. With the exception of the first two Superman movies, comic book-based movies sucked for decades. But the past few years reversed that trend with such great franchises as Spider-Man, X-Men, and Batman Begins. Here are my favorites.
- The Dark Knight
- Batman Begins
- Spider-Man 2
- X-Men 2
- Iron Man
- Scott Pilgrim
- Kick-Ass
- The Incredibles (not actually based on a comic)
- Captain America
- Watchmen
- All-Star Superman
- Iron Man 2
- Hellboy
- Thor
- Spider-Man
- Green Lantern
- X-Men: First Class
- The Crow
- Sin City
- American Splendor
- X-Men
- Superman I (disregarding the ending)
- The Rocketeer
- The Incredible Hulk
- Superman Returns
- V for Vendetta
- The Flash (TV Pilot)
- Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (animated)
- Superman II (disregarding the ending)
- Fantastic Four
- Batman
- Constantine
- Men in Black
- Ghost World
- Fantastic Four 2
- Batman Forever
- Batman: SubZero (animated)
- The Hulk
- Smallville (TV Pilot)
- From Hell
Wow - it's like a comics movie Rennaisance!
Here's some recent movies that were various degrees of great. And that has nothing at all to do with Jessica Alba, nor Katie Holmes, and certainly not Natalie Portman.
Batman Begins & The Dark Knight

Could it be? Good Batman movies?
About time!
Iron Man
Robert Downey Jr. made this movie amazing. Everyone else was good, too. A near-perfect translation of a character from a book to the screen.

Fantastic Four
These two movies weren't too bad, but not up to the caliber of Marvel's other recent movies. The Thing should have been a huge CGI monster. But Johnny was dead on, and Jessica Alba was Jessica Alba.
Sin City
Great noir movie based on Fank Miller's comics and driected by Miller, Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino. Again with the Jessica Alba.
Another great Alan Moore story ...
V for Vendetta
Natalie Portman runs around a futurefied totalitarian Britain with a scary mask guy. Who would think she'd still be attractive bald? Oh yeah, everyone.

What's another groovy comic movie?
Hellboy

Hellboy is an excellent comic and the series B.P.R.D., its spin-off, is also superb. Abe Sapien, above center, is one of my favorite characters.
Superman Returns!
Better than I expected, but weird decision to ape the old Supes movie as much as possible. Lex Luthor was also preposterous and Lois was lackluster.
